Sounds: The Pronunciation App FREE App Reviews

This app is a dud. It is completely inoperational. I have seen it work on the iPod, but it wont work on my iOS 6 iPad.

All it can do is teach you how to pronounce the "symbols". To illustrate, if you ask someone "how do you pronounce this word?"...it will ask you back "what is its pronunciation symbol?". Ive no desire in learning how to write the sound. Dear developer, heres how you can make your app useful. Type in the word, demo its sound, show the symbol if you must. Simple, isnt it?!?

Most helpful for singers diction classes, especially when teaching/learning foreign language pronunciation.

It would be great if ALL the sounds were there! No O and no flap!

First impression: GREAT potential. I teach this and have been looking for an app like this for ages. Sadly, this one comes up short. First: the IPA usage for American English is weak and imprecise. Many of the sounds connected sound like a Brit trying hard to make an American accent (especially the -er). Last: more could be done with the interface (one thing: dont override screen orientation--its irritating).

The American IPA chart is voiced by a non-American English speaker. The app mixes pronunciations from various dialects as well. Very disappointed.

The technical aspect of sounds is good, but it does not give access to enough words to make it useful for daily application. If you are not sure how to pronounce a word, you have a smallish chance to find it in the app. By the time you figure out that it is not there, you will have dropped the app altogether

When I try to take the quiz, the keyboard wont work for me.

It helps with recognizing the sounds..it doesnt teach much, but for begginers its helpful!

I use it often and it is a good reference.

The first preview image tells you all there is to know about the chart and its usefulness. Worth having for that, but the only other features are both test-your-knowledge games.

Im studying speech and language pathology and this is app is accurate and reliable. I love it!! Its missing two of the sounds but other than that its great!

I downloaded this app because I am studying to be a SPL and have a phonetics class. This app has really helped me remember sounds and might be my key to passing the class! Also can be fun to just play around on! :)

Never taken a linguistics class until now. This is helpful because I learn the sounds that go with the symbols that I am just learning. Havent played with the quiz part yet but Im sure itll be great too

Too much make it educative not a freaking boring game
